Acting on the radio is challenging, inspiring, delicate and always a privilege.

STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS

David Tennant voiced the droid Huyang in two episodes of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

The official Star Wars website described the character as "a role that is a major addition to the Star Wars mythos: Huyang, an ancient, wise droid who oversees the building of lightsabers by Jedi younglings."

The story was spread out over three episodes, but David's voice is only heard in the first and third.

The episodes, from series five, were A Test of Strength, Bound for Rescue, where you can see Huyang's character but he doesn't speak and A Necessary Bond.

On November 7, 2012 Starwars.com posted a full page on their news section about David's appearance in the series: (note IGN.com beat them to the announcement by one day!)

"My wife was the one who got me watching Doctor Who," says The Clone Wars' supervising director Dave Filoni, "and I am really glad she did.

I remember thinking that the series had many of the same production challenges that we do on The Clone Wars -- creating galactic scale adventures and planets with strange life forms."

But it was more than an affinity for Doctor Who that led Filoni to Tennant for such a crucial part in "A Test of Strength."

"As a fan that has the privilege of playing in the Star Wars galaxy, I am always on the lookout for others who appreciate, and would enjoy, an opportunity to go on an adventure in George's galaxy far, far away.

When I heard the Doctor himself, David Tennant was a fan of Star Wars, I knew I had to find a way to get in contact with him to see if he would perform on The Clone Wars. The result was Huyang...I thought David

On May 1, 2013 the Daytime Entertainment Emmy® Awards announced that David Tennant had been nominated for his performance in The Clone Wars.
Nominated in the Outstanding Performer in an Animated Progam category along with Jim Cummings and Sam Witwer.

The 2013 Daytime Emmy Creative Arts Awards were handed out on June 14th, these awards honor the behind-the-scenes talent on daytime TV shows.

AND THE WINNER IS - DAVID TENNANT !
“I absolutely loved what David Tenant was doing on Doctor Who. There was such a quizzical nature to his character, a sense of whimsy, but he could still get very powerful emotion out of the character — a lot of intensity, a lot of anger — just an incredible display of range.” - Dave Filoni

David's win marks the shows first Emmy win in their five year run!

Dave Filoni, the serires director who accepted the award for David was kind enough to a picture of David's Emmy!!!

Here is what he had to say on his Facebook page:

I am very excited to report that David Tennant has won an Emmy for his portrayal of Huyang in Clone Wars.

David is a lifelong Star Wars fan and he has definately made an indellible mark on the Star Wars universe that generations of fans will enjoy for years to come. Thank you David, the Force is strong with you.
The series director Dave Filoni posted on Facebook:

"Everyone, as you know tonight Star Wars: The Clone Wars won an Emmy for Outstanding Special Class Animation and David Tennant won Friday for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Series for his work as Huyang.

These awards represent the hard work of everyone who has worked on The Clone Wars' 5 seasons. Whether you worked on Clone Wars in the Bay Area, Singapore, Taipei, or Tokyo we all did this together.

Everything you ever wanted to know about Professor Huyang can be found here on his Starwars.com Encyclopedia page.

Did you know that he is 1.8 meters tall! The series Supervising Director, David Filoni tells how the character was developed from drawing board to David's voice here.

"David even impressed George!"

During an interview with BBC Newsbeat's entertainment reporter Natalie Jamieson at the premiere of his movie, Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger, he talked about being asked to voice the role.
