SILVER: RETURN TO TREASURE ISLAND

Andrew Motion, who was the UK Poet Laureate from 1999 - 2009 and was knighted in 2009, has written a sequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island called Silver: Return to Treasure Island.

The novel was published by Jonathan Cape Publishing, part of the Random House group, on March 15, 2012.

Treasure Island is a book I have loved since childhood: it is a cornerstone of my reading, and of my imagination. Excitement, mystery, intrigue, suspense, pathos and human sympathy: Stevenson combines all these things. I have tried to do the same - in a story which honours his original genius, but at the same time sails its own course.’  - Andrew Motion

Synopsis: "July, 1802. In the marshy eastern reaches of the Thames lies The Hispaniola, an inn kept by Jim Hawkins and his son. Young Jim spends his days roaming the mist-shrouded estuaries, running errands for his father and listening to stories in the taproom; tales of adventures on the high seas, of curses, murder and revenge, black spots and buried treasure - and of a man with a wooden leg."

The unabridged audiobook, read by David Tennant, was released on June 15, 2012 by Whole Story Audiobooks and includes an interview with the author.  The story is split over 12 CDs for a total listening time of 12 hours and 30 minutes.

The audiobook was released in the US by Dreamscape Media on August 7, 2012.

The audiobook is also available as a download from Amazon in both the UK and the US.

'I'm completely delighted David Tennant’s reading Silver. I honestly can't think of anyone I'd rather hear do it.'  - author Andrew Motion.

And then I heard this. Silver, exuberantly read by David Tennant (sounding nothing like Dr Who) is a splendid adventure story in its own right."

"David Tennant and his phenomenal range of voices does full justice to Andrew Motion's Silver: Return to Treasure Island."
