Acting on the radio is challenging, inspiring, delicate and always a privilege.

On June 14, 2012 Ian Fleming Productions and AudioGo (formerly BBC Audio Books) announced a new series of Bond audio books.

The series, called 007 Reload and features some of the UK's top actors including Kenneth Branagh and David Tennant.

"On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is read by the remarkable David Tennant"

“AudioGO is extremely pleased and excited to be working with Ian Fleming Publications on the release of twelve brand new James Bond audio recordings.

These classic, timeless stories, when combined with the excellent calibre of star readers, will make for a truly entertaining and compelling listening experience.” Mike Bowen – Managing Director

The project took three years and was directed by Enyd Williams who was one of the producer's of BBC Radio Four's The Complete Works of Sherlock Holmes.

Heading up the project for Ian Fleming Publications is Lucy Fleming, the author's niece. Lucy and David have also collaborated on the recording of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again in 2011 and in 2013 on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang The Race Against Time.

“I am delighted to say that Ian Fleming Publications and AudioGO are thrilled to be working together to present some of Britain’s best-known actors reading Ian’s classic Bond novels, for your ears only...” - Lucy Fleming

The recordings are of the full unabridged versions of the books and each actor has provided a new fresh take on the novels.

AudioGo will be the sole distributor of the twelve titles were released on CD or download on September 6, 2012 and each audiobook includes an interview between the actor reading the book and Lucy Fleming.

Synopsis: "In his Alpine base, Blofeld is developing biological weapons that will devastate Britain. Unaware of the danger, James Bond is about to get married to Teresa di Vicenzo, the daughter of a Corsican Mafioso. But then he is sent to Switzerland. Bond’s marriage and Blofeld’s schemes disintegrate in a blizzard of gunfire and high explosive from which neither man emerges the victor."

"A Scottish actor, who reads in an English accent and then has to pretend to be Scottish. This audiobook may sound as convoluted as a Bond novel, but that’s just part of what makes On Her Majesty’s Secret Service a superb listen with David Tennant.

There’s also one of the world’s master criminals, a remarkably beautiful girl, and plenty of wild and exciting chases on the Swiss mountains.

However, to infiltrate Blofeld’s lair, Bond has to impersonate a Scottish peer (though it’s not the first time we’ve experienced a Scottish Bond). But Tennant’s take on Blofeld is something else. This major villain’s silky voice makes him sound even more dangerous and deadly.

Tennant reads this audiobook with humour and pathos, and at a breathless pace when danger occurs." - taken from AudioGo Facebook page
