Acting on the radio is challenging, inspiring, delicate and always a privilege.

MONTY PYTHON IN ABERYSTWYTH

"When the Monty Python film Life of Brian opened in Britain in 1979, it broke box office records in it's first week of release. The film was banned by many local authorities, but by the start of 2009 only one ban was left - in Aberystwyth. The mayor of Aberstwyth successfully campaigned to get the ban lifted." - BBC

The Mayor had actually started the campaign back in July of 2008, "I think it should be lifted. I would like to think that any religion would have the generosity to see the film for what it is, which is a comedy." - BBC News

Oh, did I mention the mayor of Aberystwyth at the time was Sue Jones-Davies.

She played the character of Judith IN Life of Brian!

To celebrate this historic event, Pythons Michael Palin and Terry Jones , pictured below with Sue, attended a special charity screening at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre.

More than 100 people attended the event and the two Python stars were mobbed by reporters, fans and camera crews.

Broadcast on BBC Wales only, May 12, 2009 from 10:35 - 11:05 pm, the special was written and directed by James Strong* and produced by Gillian Seaborne**, who have been involved with David on MANY Doctor Who related projects.
