Acting on the radio is challenging, inspiring, delicate and always a privilege.

Doctor Who Unbound: Exile

Exile was Big Finish audio Doctor Who Unbound number 6 and it was recorded at Moat Studios on September 1, 2003. It was released on 1 CD on September 25, 2003 with a runtime of 1:07:01.

The story was written and directed by Nicholas Briggs, who is well know in Doctor Who circles for his work in many Big Finish stories.

He is the writer and director of Dalek Empire III with David Nebulous, in which David

Synopsis: (from Bigfinish.com)

"What if...the Doctor had escaped the justice of the Time Lords?

"They want to punish me for being me!"

All the doctor has to do to avoid being caught by the Time Lords is work in a supermarket and go to the pub. It's a cunning plan - certainly far less dangerous than fighting the dreaded Quarks and all those other alien fiends.

But just when everything seemed mundane and safe, alien transmissions, exploding poison gas, Princess Anne and wobbly trolleys burst onto the scene to ruin everything.

It's a crisis! A fiendish alien plot!

And the Doctor must use all the resources at her disposal to defeat it. She'll probably need to have a large vodka first, though."

Arabella burps for David

“I knew that David would love it if I did this play,” explains Arabella, “so I said, ‘Yes, of course I’ll do it.’ My agent was surprised – she said, ‘You never say “yes” to things straight away’ – but I said, ‘I’m doing it because of David. He’ll never forgive me if I don’t.’ Of course, if I didn’t know David, I’d not be aware of Doctor Who Magazine.

David gets it every month, so a whole new world has opened up to me. But I may not be subscribing just yet.” She smiles a huge smile. “Then again…”

In the recording booth, Arabella is burping in David’s face. The script requires lots of belching, and some bottom burps. It’s like Aliens of London, but not as funny. Astonishingly, despite his impressive range, David is unable to burp on cue, so Arabella is helping him out. “Do I get a pound of his money?” she asks.

“A pound a belch?” splutters David. “That’s shameful opportunism, Arabella!”

“I bet Pru Scales doesn’t do anybody else’s belching.”

David laughs. “I just can’t… I mean, I don’t have that skill.”

“So,” she smiles, “I really am uniquely skilled, especially for a lady.”
