Acting on the radio is challenging, inspiring, delicate and always a privilege.

EARTHFLIGHT

The BBC announced this amazing six part nature series in a press release on December 3, 2009.

Earth Flight
will be another in a series of "eye spy" programmes produced by John Downer Productions.  They also produced Polar Bear– Spy On Ice , Swarm – Nature's Incredible Invasions, Penguins - Spy in the Huddle, and Dolphins - Spy in the Pod all of which are narrated by David Tennant.

The programme will follow the journeys of birds across five continents including geese, cranes, falcons, albatross and eagles.
Excerpt from press release:

"Using cutting edge new filming techniques to show everything in exquisite detail, viewers have a uniquely privileged perspective flying 9,000 metres high over the sands of the Sahara or skimming metres over the Great Wall of China.

The birds are shown up-close in flight and interacting with other animals down below, from barnacle geese encountering herds of migrating reindeer, to pelicans plunging into hundreds of nurse sharks.

Spycams film right in the heart of the flock with microlights, hang-gliders and wirecams making up the aerial filming arsenal."

The series was broadcast in six one-hour episodes on BBC 1 at 8:00 pm, one episode per continent, plus an episode of behind the scenes footge.

The series was also broadcast on BBC HD.

The series was released on a 2 DVD set on March 26, 2012 and also as a book and DVD together.

The DVD's total 360 minutes and also included a picture gallery.
