DRAGONS: RIDERS OF BERK

Dragons: Riders of Berk is a US animated TV series spin off from the 2010 Dreamworks film How to Train Your Dragon

Many of the stars who worked on the film reprise their roles in the TV series, which is also produced by Dreamworks.

Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and T. J. Miller all return for the small screen. 


The series takes place between the events from the first film and the sequel which will be out in 2014.  There was a preview of the series broadcast on August 7, 2012 and the first official episode aired on September 4, 2012.  The show is computer animated and airs on Cartoon Network.


The series won two Annie Awards in 2013 and an Emmy in 2013 for Outstanding Individual Achievement In Animation – Character Design, won by Andy Bialk.

David Tennant is the voice of Cressida Cowell's audiobooks in the UK and he made a cameo voice appearance in the 2010 film as Spitelout.


David gets a second chance to voice Spitelout in the TV series in an episode called Thawfest.  In fact he has more lines in this episode than in the film.


Thawfest, which was episode 12 of season one of the series, aired on November 28, 2012 at 8:00 PM.

Synopsis: During the annual Thawfest Hiccup has always been beaten by Snotlout during the festival games, but this year he finally feels like he can bring some glory to his clan's name since the games will feature dragon events!

But when the high of winning starts to go to his head Hiccup finds himself locked in a lose/lose battle with Snotlout.

DVD RELEASE - FIRST SERIES

Series one was released in two parts on July 23, 2013.

Part one contained episodes 1-11 and part two had episodes 12-20. 

Part two contained David's episode.

The release was in Dolby Digital 5.1 and widescreen.

SEASON TWO - DRAGONS: DEFENDERS OF BERK

David Tennant will make an appearance in episode five of season two, Race to Fireworm Island, which aired on October 17, 2013 at 7:30 pm on Th Cartoon Network in the USA.  He will be reprising his role as Snotlout's father Spitelout.


The episode was directed by John Sanford and written by F. M. De Marco.


Synopsis: Hookfangs flame goes out so the gang must find a way to re-ignite it. The episode will feature a new dragon, the Fireworm Queen, who looks like a giant golden deadly nadder with a Crown.
