As a nod to David's starring in Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger, that had opened in the UK on November 23, 2012 the title of the radio play was Nativity 3: Dude, Where's My Donkey.

Ritchie Firth, Breakfast Show co-host, David Tennant, Christian O'Connell, DJ Russ Williams, Andrew Bailey, the show's newsreader, Maggie Doyle who does the traffic and travel on the show, Newton Faulker,who provided the music and soccer star Ian Wright.

The radio station ran several contests for listeners in conjunction with the broadcast and you could win a spot in the in studio audience, you could win a spot to be in the play a one of the three wise men.
On December 5th Christian asked listeners to ring in and say the line "We bring gifts from the East of Gold, Frankincnce and Myhrr."
In order to win audience tickets you had to ring in with a fact about the breakfast show.
Also on December 17th the Guilty Pleasures section of the Metro had an email contest for a pair of audience tickets.

"Doctor Who star David Tennant has agreed to take on the role as the Virgin Mary in Absolute Radio’s celebrity nativity play this year.
The Scottish star will appear in full costume alongside breakfast show host Christian O’Connell as Joseph for the tongue-in-cheek one-off performance which is being broadcast live across the UK on Absolute Radio from their central London studios."
Christian O'Connell was quoted as saying, Christian O’Connell said, “David Tennant fans are going to really enjoy seeing his masculine Scottish jaw-line peeking out from under a head-scarf with me on his arm.
He’ll need to draw on all his luvvie training to avoid being out-acted by me and Wrighty on the day."
The same quote was repeated in the article The Express ran about the show except they added their 2p - "We can’t imagine he struggled."
The Sun had the headline "David Tennant is having a very Mary Christmas"
The Sunday Mail (Glasgow) gave us "Who's up for Nativity".

The catering, drinks and costumes were donated by listeners with the whole show performed around an imposing stable and manger constructed especially for the performance by breakfast show sponsors Wickes.
Absolute Radio’s Breakfast Show host Christian O’Connell said:
